Jindal Panther is Jindal Steel’s flagship reinforcement bar brand — the fourth major TMT bar we’re reviewing in this series, and one with distinct positioning on both technology sourcing and grade breadth compared to Tata Tiscon, JSW Neosteel, and SAIL SEQR.

Brand Background

Jindal Panther was launched as a steel brand in 2013, manufactured by Jindal Steel and Power Limited (now Jindal Steel Limited), and named with inspiration from the Black Panther. JSPL itself is a major player in India’s steel industry with operations spanning mining, power generation, and infrastructure, and an annual turnover exceeding US$3.5 billion.

Manufacturing Technology

Jindal Panther rebars use HYQST (High Yield Quenching and Self-Tempering) technology sourced from Morgan of the USA — now part of Siemens USA — a rebar production technology the brand states surpasses the base requirements of Fe500D, 550D, and 600CRS grades on strength, ductility, bendability, and weldability.

This mirrors JSW Neosteel’s approach of sourcing rolling technology internationally (Danieli and Morgan), suggesting reliance on proven foreign equipment has become close to an industry norm among India’s top TMT producers, rather than a differentiator any single brand can claim exclusively.

Grades Available

Jindal Panther bars comply with the latest BIS 1786:2008 specification and are available in Fe 500D, Fe 550D, and Fe 600 grades, plus EQR and CRS quality variants, with the Fe 500D grade specifically suited to seismic-prone areas. The full range spans diameters from 6mm to 40mm, across grades including Fe-500D, Fe-550D, Fe-600D, Fe-550CRS, and Fe-600CRS — a grade spread comparable in breadth to JSW Neosteel’s lineup, and notably wider than Tata Tiscon’s core offering.

Technical Performance (Fe 550D Grade)

Looking at the flagship 550D grade in detail: ductility is enhanced through controlled cooling and tempering stages, allowing the bar to bend without cracking; weldability is qualified for standard methods (MIG, TIG, SMAW) without requiring pre-heating; bendability offers a minimum bend radius of 6mm for 12mm diameter bars; and impact energy performance is rated at a minimum of 30 Joules at -20°C, indicating reliable performance even in colder climates and high-altitude regions. That cold-climate impact rating is a specification detail not commonly highlighted by competing brands, and could matter for buyers in northern or high-altitude Indian states.

Quality Control

Jindal Panther carefully controls the amount of carbon, manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus in its bars to maintain overall quality, using controlled chemistry and virgin iron ore as part of its manufacturing process.

Pricing

As of July 2026, Jindal Panther TMT bar prices range between ₹82-88 per kg, depending on grade and region — notably higher than Tata Tiscon (₹58-70/kg), JSW Neosteel (₹52-68/kg), and SAIL SEQR (₹45-62/kg). This positions Jindal Panther as a distinct premium-tier product in the Indian TMT market, rather than competing primarily on price.

At the smaller end, Jindal Panther bars start around ₹221 for 6mm diameter pieces, rising to roughly ₹808 for 12mm and up to ₹3,503 for 25mm diameter bars, though these piece-based prices vary somewhat by state.

Our Take

Jindal Panther distinguishes itself less through grade breadth (which is comparable to JSW Neosteel) and more through documented cold-climate impact performance and its premium price positioning — the highest of the four major brands we’ve reviewed in this series. For buyers in northern India or high-altitude regions specifically, the -20°C impact energy rating is a genuinely differentiated data point worth factoring in.

For general residential or commercial construction in moderate climates, the meaningfully higher price relative to Tata Tiscon, JSW Neosteel, and SAIL SEQR means Jindal Panther’s premium positioning has to be weighed against otherwise broadly comparable IS 1786:2008-compliant performance.
